Typically ranges from Mexico to Peru/Brazil, but can be found in Florida - named for the "8" patterning on the verso side of the hindwings. Pieter Cramer (1721-76) was a Dutch entomologist/lepidopterist exploring Dutch-colonies, he supposedly identified the 88 in 1775.
Painted using artist grade watercolors on archival watercolor paper, and framed under museum-quality glass with archival matting and boards. Exhibition History: included in the solo show at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens May-Sept 2026.
Please note prints of the original watercolor are available in 4 standard sizes, as well as custom-size prints, per the PRINTS section of this website.
